Hello! My name is Kate Ballard. I grew up in Albuquerque, New Mexico with my family, including two brothers and two step brothers. I went to college at Macalester College in Saint Paul, Minnesota and got my Masters of Education from the University of Minnesota. I have been teaching ESL at Jefferson since 2015. I have worked with Kindergartners, First Grade, Second Grade, Third Grade, and Fifth Grade. I speak English as my first language and studied French in both high school and college. I am currently a language learner in Spanish and am looking forward to continuing to learn. I love to read, garden, go on adventures, cook, and spend time with my friends. I love spicy food and anything covered in cheese.

I am so excited to be working with Second and Third Grade students this year and to help students build their academic language! We will work on getting better at speaking, listening, reading, and writing in English throughout the year. We will have opportunities to practice in many different ways. I hope and dream that all students will make language growth and feel welcome at Jefferson.
