My name is Chris Yohe and I am the school counselor for 8th grade students at Jefferson Community School. This is my third year at Jefferson. I am originally from Pennsylvania and got my counseling degree at the University of New Mexico. I was a counselor on the Navajo Nation and in St. Louis Public School prior to coming to Minneapolis. I am very happy to be at Jefferson and feel lucky to work with our awesome students, families, and staff!

The Mission of a school counselor here at Jefferson is to promote a positive school climate that inspires students to be on time, engaged, and have a positive attitude towards learning. My goal is to guide students as they develop academic and social skills which will help them to be disciplined and lifelong learners who are productive and responsible citizens in their communities. Counselors address student needs in three main areas: Social/Emotional, Academic, and Career. Counseling is provided to individual students, with groups of students, and through the My Life Plan curriculum, to classrooms of 8th grade students. I also help students and families in the process of picking and requesting a high school.

The goal of the counseling program is to increase students’ academic performance, prepare students for high school, and increase the high school graduation rate.

I am happy to talk to families about any questions, concerns or feedback they may have.
