Welcome to Room 134!

Hello! My name is Nina Anderson and I have taught in the Minneapolis Public Schools since 1994. I have been at Jefferson Community School since 2010. During my teaching career I have taught Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade. At Jefferson, I have been in a Literacy/Intervention position working with K, 1st and 2nd. I received my undergraduate degree at Augsburg College. My master’s degree is from St. Mary’s University with a Literacy Focus.

Currently, my position is working as a co-teacher with K, 1st and 2nd grade during guided reading. I also do Tier 2 and Tier 3 interventions with students. Differentiation is something that I strongly believe in for success. Therefore, planning with my teams is another important part of my job.

My favorite thing to teach to children is:

How to use Reading Strategies to build their confidence in reading. It is extremely gratifying to watch a child use a reading strategy they have learned to read a new word for the first time. I also love when they make the connections and support each other.

My philosophy is:

Every child can learn if they feel safe and they feel part of a caring community. Relationships and building a strong support system for students, parents and staff is something I feel very strongly about.  I believe in recognizing and celebrating individual and group success, it helps build a successful learning community.
