My name is Benjamin Farrey-Latz, and I am a special education teacher at Jefferson. I have been at Jefferson since Fall 2013. Prior to working for Minneapolis Public Schools, I was an elementary school teacher for several years teaching first and second grade. Throughout my years as an elementary teacher, I worked with students with a variety of needs, and I realized that I really enjoy working with children with special needs.  I decided to go back to school to become a special education teacher. I completed the Master’s program at the University of Minnesota in Spring 2013. I have licensures for Elementary Education, Special Education: Developmental Disabilities, and Special Education: Autism. I am looking forward  to continue working with our students on building their academic skills, social, and functional skills. Literacy has become a strong focus for our program, and Summer 2018 I attended a Literacy Camp to continue building skills in teaching reading, writing, and word skills. I am excited about sharing my learning with our students.

Outside of school, I enjoy reading, theater, taking walks, and spending time with family and friends.
